Durability
I recently watched the movie Dorothy. There was a lot of vitriol against this movie upon release and honestly all of these are unwarranted. I can definitely see the case for a slightly different climax but as it is the movie is still profound and touching. And I can imagine a world where the current climax could be a reality.
One thing that moved me through the entire movie was Maestro Ilayaraaja’s music. I’m a huge fan of the Raja sir’s How to Name it album and this movie had a slightly different version of the Do Nothing track - How else to name it?. This prompted me to listen Composer’s Breath from Nothing But Wind. This is a track that I’ve listened to, a million times, but still there is something that amazes me and evokes different kinds of emotions.
Undeniably, we’re moving to the hyper-assembly line phase of human life. It’s promised to usher us in a lot of prosperity. But this is likely to come with its own drawbacks - we’re likely to see a huge drop in durability of anything that we can consume. We see this in music in the Tamil film industry already. Pretty much every song that is conceived is for reels and likes with its own hooks. No one is willing to listen to a 17 minute track.
