An event, 4 years back! Year 2005! I am at the Anna University Counseling. Toppers around me. Words of my mom ringing in my ears – “Take Aeronautical…” Words of my cousins – “Take ECE…” Words of Arul Sir – “Take CS…” I enter the hall with my dad. I get a spare terminal. ECE in CEG ruled out. A choice between CS in CEG and ECE in MIT. I went with ECE in MIT because it was closer to my place.

So, you want to develop a cool “Mouse Trailer Dust Sparkle” effect as in here. This costs 1$. Here’s a tutorial which will tell you how to do it. I’ve accomplished it using a MovieClip with a small circle. You can just replace it with your own.  Here’s the code.

Another news for the media to bombard and make it a national issue. Over the past 3 days, all the news channels have been focusing on the harassment of the so called “modern women” in a pub in Mangalore. Members of the Sri Ram Sena entered a pub in Mangalore on Saturday, the 24th of January and attacked the women dancing there. The media has then started to blow this out of proportion. Journalists like Sagarika Ghosh and Barkha Dutt have been conducting chat sessions titled “Is India not ready for the modern woman?” or something else.

The eve of Republic Day! January 2006! It’s been 60 yrs now! India has moved a lot of strides in these 60 yrs now, thanks to visionaries who made it possible. The next 60 is in our hands to make India a super power.

You might be wondering why I have chosen such an eccentric title for this post. Microsoft and Open Source don’t go with each other. And if you are a Windoze bunny, you might have probably downloaded the beta version of the next installment of Windows, i.e Windows 7. If you haven’t you can check the screenshots here. If a first glance at the screenshots make you gape in awe, then you probably haven’t touched a glass of wine before. If it doesn’t look interesting to you then probably you drink a lot of wine. But what has wine to do with Windows. Wine has everything to do with Windows. Wine is a Windows Emulator for linux. Seeing the screenshots, I can only infer one thing. Microsoft is finally doing justice to the name of its OS. It’s quite evident that the previous versions didn’t have much transparency and subsequent versions have been having increased transparency. Who knows, probably Windows 15 will have a very high transparency that you can actually see your neighbour through your monitor just as you can through a window. Now I get the pun in the OS’s name.

Whoa! What a game! I first played the game with an old graphics driver and the graphics was crappy. A change of drivers and the game is awesome. It’s one of the best games I’ve ever played and it’ll keep me busy for atleast a couple of months. The game sports a different menu look which is cool (reminds me of some grafitti on a wall). The game has a new feature this year. This is the “BECOME A LEGEND” feature which makes a comeback. PES veterans would know that this feature was in PES long before EA introduced the “Be A Pro” in the 08 version. The game looks even slicker this year and I feel the overall game speed has been increased by a slight amount. I haven’t checked out the online mode of PES 09 and reviews say that the game actually works, given the fact that the performance was poor in the 08 version. Another big addition in this edition is the UEFA license.

Fifa 09, one of the most awaited games of the year is out! Another cool game from EA’s box. I wonder how people at EA manage to come out with a game every year with so minimal changes. Anyways, here’s the review.

The past week is a week I would never forget in my life. It all started on Thursday, the 28th of August. I was shocked to hear that my grandma (mom’s aunt) had passed away. She had been one of my well wishers and the first one to bless me on my birthday. I was depressed to see her being taken to the cemetery the next day. I had my Project review on the same day, ie Friday, the 29th and we managed to answer every question that was thrown at us except for the last one which was about our work division. We couldn’t find an answer to this and Sai, though he managed to conjure up something, failed miserably.

I’ve always been an active supporter of Flash and ActionScript and loved to develop interesting animations through Flash and AS2.0. The latest installment of Flash is the CS3 which includes a new version of ActionScript, ie 3.0. AS3.0 is completely Object Oriented and is very similar to Java & C++. So, programmers who have experience in either of these languages would have very less difficulty in learning AS3.0. In this blog, I’ll elucidate my experiences with OOP and AS3.0 and I believe it would help a lot of people trying to learn AS3.0.
